24/03/01 billing, kangra take off at 11:30. Not very strong so hang around for a bit till the cloudbase rises. Toplanding. Niku,mike and claudia also topland. Ten take off at 2:00pm and get straight into hose ythermal which is blasting up at 5-7m/s. am up at 3500, just below cloudbase in about 5 minutes. goto 3122 and get some mor height and the full speedbar down to the next ridge. and its going up beautifully as you cross the "sinky" valleys and approach the ridge. peep, peep, poop poop, peep peep peep, poop poop poop, peep peep peep peep peeeeeeeeeeee.....vario's making music. so over every ridge i make 3500-3800 and the full speed bar down to the next one. landing at police gorund,dharamshala. 45km crosscountry. 2:51 3725 2414 ? 7 8

26/3/2001 billing,kangra took off at about 12 looked like cross country weather. Did 3 ridges and came back. Really turbulent and strong. Later when we looked at pepe's vario, we found that he had recorded max lift of 16.6m/s. wow! bir 1:14 3538 2420 1400 5 8
27/3/2001 billing,kangra left for the take off from bir at 9:30.but because the road was being "widened", we had to walk the last 5km from below thermal devta to the take off. Strong (20-30kmph) westerly winds and strong inversion. No birds. Some cirrus in the morning, and then developing cumuli behind 3122 in the high mountains. All this is very unsusal so we wait. by 2:30, i finally get impatient and take off. little penetartion and the angle of the thermals is high, so for the first time in billing, there is the concept of being blown back. is really difficult to stay in the thermal in strong wind as well. get upto 3500 in the house thermal over the devta and am almost at cloudbase. then spiral down. try and topland but after a few times of hanging 5m above take off, i give up and decide to fly. bir 1:43 3329 2420 1400 5 8
28/3/2001 billing,kangra cirrus at 7: a.m. over the whole sky. Some "wavy" clouds. Strong east wind. We decide to go up anyway. Really strong east wind, rain and thunderstorm at 2:00. Windometer maxes at 50kmph. If you stand at the edge of the take off, it looks like you'll fly without a paraglider.walk down!

2/4/01 billing, kangra landed at dharamsala. First spent 20 minutes over mcleodganj/triund looking for a sign from debu/andy. Found out later that they landed at triund and took off agai and went back to bir!. 3:25

5/4/01 billing, kangra mandi 2:05 900 mandi cvross country. Flew south with the wind behind me. Unlike dharamshala, where you need to cross many valleys, this is somewhat easier as there's a ridge that goes along almmost all the way to mandi. Careful in mandi though. Narrow valley, only one good landing place, the main ground opposite the bus stand. lots of power lines and towers on the last few ridges so smart to approach with some height. which i didn't do of course, and then had to scratch for 20 minutes on the last ridge to get enough to clear the power lines, river etc.
6/4/01 billing, kangra tandem with jana gana. bir 0:45 crash landing!! Came in too high and then got myself into an irrevocable situation. 10ft from the ground, and at the end of the landing field. 10 ft from he trees. Stalled the glider .landed with a huge thud. and wrist cracked.aaaaagh! Passsenger okay though. he landed on me!
